In week 8 we are back to the synchronous class and were introduced to the Learning Theories and Instructional Design: TPACK Model (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Framework). The learning theories are divided in three major aspect which is behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. The behaviorism is defined as a learning paradigm that focuses on changes in people’s behavior’s (what they say or do). Behavior is something that we learn from our environment. In classroom, this helps students in term of connection between the way their act to their immediate precursors and repercussions. Furthermore, this approach highlights the observable links between act, precursors, and effects. Behaviorism also relies on two primary behavioral learning representations/model which is respondent conditioning and operant conditioning.
Cognitivism is then defined as a learning theory that centered around the mind and how it processes information. The mind is like a computer which in turn makes cognitivism as a internal mental processes than external behavior. The development of different kinds or learning skills are based on Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning objectives. In psychology, it is said that people learn by mentally arranging new information or experiences. The organization than occurs by linking new ones to the previously acquired knowledge. Also, there are also discusses by other psychological paradigm in constructivism on the way people gain their knowledge by being active participating with their own experience. The said learner’s responses to experience will be stressed, this includes assimilation and adaptation. Following this, we dive into the next topic which is Instructional Design (ID). ID is centered around systematic design, development, and implementation of efficient and effective instructions that have the purpose of improving learning and performance. Thus, ID is a consistent style of thinking and performing in order to create high-quality training. The four model of ID is Morisson-Ross-Kemp, ASSURE, ID system, and Dick and Carey. They can be used in conjunction with the TPACK which focuses on technological knowledge (TK), Pedagogical knowledge (PK) and content knowledge (CK). This helps to provide solutions to many of the difficulty the teachers are facing while integrating educational technology in the classroom. Thus, the learning theories are very helpful towards understanding what happened in the classroom and finding ways to solve problems that are unique in each and every individual. We can say that it provided teacher with assistance in structuring activities and to create the setting appropriate to learning. Meanwhiles, ID ensure the high-quality of the student’s learning materials so that they can learn more efficiently by measuring their strengths and shortcomings. This will then be resulting in an effective teaching and learning in the classroom.
